Permission Review[edit]

Hello! Could someone please review the permission for this file File:Mikee Quintos in 2019.jpg? Because the current image is a smaller, low quality, edited version of this previously published photo. Other uploads of this user were marked as either needing permission or copyright violations. Howhontanozaz (talk) 17:36, 1 September 2021 (UTC)

I accepted the ticket on the basis that I could not find any copies of it on the Internet via reverse image search. Now that that assumption is no longer true, I will reopen the ticket. -- King of ♥ 23:34, 1 September 2021 (UTC)
@King of Hearts: Hello again, could you also take a look at this file File:Ruru Madrid 210822.jpg? Although I could not find this image through reverse image search, considering that the uploader has a history of falsifying authorship and VRT permissions, maybe it would be wise to reopen the ticket. howdy.carabao 🌱🐃🌱 (talk) 04:16, 18 September 2021 (UTC)
This one was accepted without further verification. Pinging Mussklprozz. -- King of ♥ 14:33, 18 September 2021 (UTC)
@King of Hearts, Howdy.carabao: You are right, the case is highly suspicious too. Both the format of the image and the form of the permission mail are similar to the case which was processed by King of Hearts. The sender of the ticket also twice made the same a weird spelling error in his alleged name – together with the uploader's history a strong sign that the photo was uploaded in bad faith. I reopened the ticket. --Mussklprozz (talk) 04:37, 19 September 2021 (UTC)

Tickets verified by Olaf Kosinsky[edit]

Hi, user Olaf Kosinsky (talk · contributions · Number of edits · recent activity · block log · User rights log · uploads · Global account information) has been found to do paid editing without disclosure on their main account on :wp:de: and :wp:en:. They verified a considerable amout of Tickets here at Commons.

Here is a small sample:

Account uploaded with Example proper and plausible verification?

A more complete list has been prepared.

Given their commercial interest or affiliation in getting the photos in Wikipedia articles, could a Support member team please check if proper and plausible verification has been done by Olaf? (If not, it was probably an abuse of multiple accounts here, too). Thanks -- Rillke(q?) 08:07, 5 September 2021 (UTC)

User:Einfach machen Hamburg is a well known and open Sockpuppet for paid editing of User:Atomiccocktail, he is definitely not Kosinsky. Grüße vom Sänger ♫ (talk) 08:28, 5 September 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for asking for clarification. The question if proper verification was done still stands. This enquirie's purpose is, as a first step, not to find socks but is to find if proper and plausible verification was done in spite of undisclosed commercial interests. We (I and you) could be also business partners and I could pay you for fake verifications, so even if it's clear that another real world user is behind an account, the verfification could be invalid and file would have to be deleted or properly verified. -- Rillke(q?) 08:48, 5 September 2021 (UTC)

User MalDabei (talk · contribs) was blocked as sock puppet of Olaf Kosinsky (talk · contribs) after Checkuser at dewiki [1], see also block in Logfile [2].
User MalDabei was a declared paid editing account, their contribuitions were flagged by user Olaf Kosinski. Hund96 (talk) 10:40, 5 September 2021 (UTC)

Sorry, ist was not a declared paid editing account, it was exposed after: de:Wikipedia:Checkuser/Anfragen/Olaf Kosinsky; Subteno. Regards --Itti (talk) 10:56, 5 September 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for bringing this up. In spite of that, can we please do step one first: Verifying Tickets. Volunteer Response Members (formerly called OTRS members) occasionally upload photos they got permission for, so even if they used multiple accounts, uploading with one and verifiying using another account iirc does not necessarily constitute abuse at Commons if not used for license laundering or evading blocks. -- Rillke(q?) 11:12, 5 September 2021 (UTC)

Brent Trolle painting upload without permissions (except for one)[edit]

I noticed the gallery of images at w:Brent Trolle has been deleted; I worked with the Trolles on the upload and helped them create the OTRS email, which they sent through on 2 August. The image File:2019-11-18—Quail·Burn·Woolshed·Omarama·Otago—Brent·Trolle.jpg is one of seven included in that legal release, and has been processed correctly by the VRT @Shizhao:. But I'm surprised the other six were not correctly tagged with a permission ticket. Is it possible to check and see if the permission was processed correctly, and restore the images to Commons if they were not? Many thanks, Giantflightlessbirds (talk) 04:43, 14 September 2021 (UTC)

Sorry, Because of the update of the Access to nonpublic personal data policy, I no longer have the VRT permission.--shizhao (talk) 06:50, 14 September 2021 (UTC)
@Giantflightlessbirds: Nope, this is it:
King of ♥ 07:04, 14 September 2021 (UTC)
OK, just checked: two separate releases were sent on August 2nd. I have the emails in front of me. There's no record of the following release sent on August 2nd?
"I hereby affirm that I, Brent Trolle, am the creator and/or sole owner of the exclusive copyright of both the work depicted and the following media:
etc."
Giantflightlessbirds (talk) 12:16, 14 September 2021 (UTC)
✓ Done I have accepted the ticket. Shizhao had asked the same clarifying question on both emails, and they only replied on one of them, but the answer to the other one is self-evident after seeing the response to the first. -- King of ♥ 15:46, 14 September 2021 (UTC)
Thanks so much for sorting this out! —Giantflightlessbirds (talk) 19:30, 14 September 2021 (UTC)

Polish Parkour Wiki deleted photos.[edit]

Hello there!

JuTa user deleted uploaded photos. I have 7 days to change the licence or add information about the author and the licence to his/her images.

I have contacted and written directly to the author of the photos I posted. The author personally contacted Wikipedia via a link sent to me (via Alfred Neumann). He confirmed that he had given written permission to insert the photos in this and future articles.

Alex R.

Please contact me via e-mail: iama1catra7@gmail.com for screens of messages from Wikipedia and/or the author of the photos — Preceding unsigned comment added by A1catra7 (talk • contribs) 13:13, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

Please ask the copyright holder to email us directly to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org Regards. --Ganímedes (talk) 22:30, 15 September 2021 (UTC)
I have restored the images. They should have been tagged as {{OTRS received}} on first contact even if the initial permission statement is insufficient, which increases the grace period to 30 days. Please see my reply (you are CC'd). -- King of ♥ 23:17, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

File:CUB-31a-El Banco Espanol de la Habana-25 Centavos (1872).jpg copyright[edit]

File:CUB-31a-El Banco Espanol de la Habana-25 Centavos (1872).jpg has three contradictory statements about its copyright:

  • "The Wikimedia Foundation has received an e-mail confirming that the copyright holder has approved publication under the terms mentioned on this page."
  • "This work was created in Cuba and is now in the public domain because its term of copyright has expired."
  • Table cells: "Type of material"→"Corporate and government works" "Copyright has expired in Cuba if ..."→"Never (perpetual copyright)"

So who sent the e-mail, and who is the putative copyright holder on whose behalf they were writing, and what did they say exactly? Jnestorius (talk) 18:54, 16 September 2021 (UTC)

This question is better asked on COM:VPC; there is obviously no authorization from the Cuban government. However, note that the government from 1872 is now defunct (overthrown by the present government). -- King of ♥ 19:36, 16 September 2021 (UTC)

Permission for File:Kivimaalaus1.jpg etc[edit]

Please can the permissions archive be checked for the files File:Kivimaalaus1.jpg, File:Kivimaalaus2.jpg, File:Kivimaalaus3.jpg andFile:Kivimaalaus4.jpg. The files were uploaded on 28 February 2017 with a statement saying that permission was sent at that time. I have tagged the files with Template:OTRS pending, however permission should already be in the system so I would be grateful if the archive could please be checked. mattbr 06:58, 18 September 2021 (UTC)

I've found nothing under Olavi Pulkkinen or Kivimaalaus. Other ideas for search are appreciated. --Ganímedes (talk) 11:03, 18 September 2021 (UTC)

The missing link[edit]

A contact sent permission for a photograph to the VRT (he didn't gave me a number but said that he used the automated e-mail template), I think that he might have missed giving a link for the deleted file, the file could be found here:

His name is Prof. Liam C. Kelley, I will ask for a ticket number and add it here when he gives it to me. This has no priority, but I wanted to put the link here so it could be undeleted once permission has been processed. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 06:30, 19 September 2021 (UTC)

@Donald Trung 『徵國單』: The copyright holder use to be the photographer, or maybe the university (judging by his title), so permission should come from them or we need to see the contract by which the full copyrights have been transferred to the professor. Anyway, I'll try to find the ticket and come back. Regards. --Ganímedes (talk) 10:13, 19 September 2021 (UTC)
I've replied the ticket. Please send a email to permissons-commons@wikimedia.org adding "Re: [Ticket#2021091910000051]" in the subject line of the email if you want to join to the conversation. --Ganímedes (talk) 10:18, 19 September 2021 (UTC)
Thanks, I will assume that a member of the VRT has already informed him, if he doesn't have contact with the photographer (and assuming that the photograph was taken in Brunei having been unable to find anything related to commissioned works at the page "Commons:Copyright rules by territory/Brunei") I will otherwise ask him to submit a selfie or ask him to let his wife send a good quality photograph. I will then ask him to continue using the same ticket number. Thank you for your time. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 19:27, 19 September 2021 (UTC)

As I have the ticket number now I believe that the rest can be handled via e-mail, so I am tagging this for archiving. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 19:28, 19 September 2021 (UTC)

Please answer in the ticket, to not spread the conversation. --Ganímedes (talk) 11:25, 21 September 2021 (UTC)

Music permission for video[edit]

Could someone check OTRS for a ticket related to the file File:MRNA vaccines against the coronavirus.webm. This video is currently a Featured Picture candidate on English Wikipedia, but the nomination has been suspended pending clearance of the music rights. Nosferattus (talk) 18:54, 21 September 2021 (UTC)

Do you have information about the ticket#? I did not search for a ticket (yet), but the end of the file links to https://freemusicarchive.org/music/Bio_Unit . Most - if not all - files are CC-BY-NC. Elly (talk) 21:29, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
@Ellywa: The ticket should be an email from Bio Unit explicitly releasing the music in the video under a CC-BY license. I'm aware that the music is listed as CC-BY-NC on the website. This is why it was necessary to get an explicit release for the music in the video. Nosferattus (talk) 21:51, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
✓[OK] all good I was a bit confused about what is happening here, but this seems in order. de:Benutzer:SCNAT is the creator of the video and they uploaded that from their registered account, so no ticket permission is required. The ticket on the file is not for the entire video, but it is from the music creator and copyright holder, and does give compatible permission for the music.
I have long felt that our practice of default privacy for the metadata of tickets is an error. As things are now, the Commons file page does not make it obvious who provided the ticket and what part of the work it covers. In the future when we have more videos this will be a bigger problem as videos frequently have multiple works and creators. Blue Rasberry (talk) 12:14, 22 September 2021 (UTC)
